On March 10 a series of courses on raising awareness about the UNSC Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security organised by Democracy Today NGO took place at the Voskeporik development center of Martuni. It is held in 9 communities of Armenia.

The goal is to show and emphasize the importance of the participation of women in conflict resolution, peacebuilding and maintenance, as well as in decision-making processes.
The discussion focused on the study of women’s opportunities enshrined in the international documents, as well as the issue of the important role of women in establishing and strengthening peace and security.
The participants of the course were introduced to the five main directions of the Resolution: prevention, protection, participation, relief and recovery and monitoring.

It was stressed that, taking into account the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, it is especially important for the Republic of Armenia to ensure the active role of women at all stages of the conflict cycle, the protection of women affected by the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and the realization of their human rights and fundamental freedoms:
It was noted that the action program for the implementation of the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 is considered by Armenia as a national mechanism for the protection and promotion of women’s rights in areas covering public life.

The course was full of information. The participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the provisions of Resolution 1325 and formed a broader understanding of the role of women and the wide range of opportunities available.
We thank both the organizers and the participants for the effective course, discussion and knowledge.
